Letter from Seán MacBride to Liam Cosgrave (Dublin)

Dublin, 5 March 1951

Dear Liam,
I am afraid that I am only now replying to your letter of January 4th1on the question that facilities should be provided at Shannon Airport for the display and sale of pictures and objects of art as well as goods of Irish manufacture.

It has, of course, always been appreciated by my officials that any suggestions on matters of this kind must be referred to your Department; but it was assumed that this would be done by your officials at the Airport. As regards Mr. Michael Scott's visit, it was understood that the question of a mural display had already been agreed with your Department by the Irish Tourist Association which, not being in a position to bear the whole expense, was anxious to secure the co-operation of the Cultural Relations Committee in presenting the display.

I fully appreciate, however, your desire that all such suggestions should be conveyed to your Department in the first instance and, on receipt of your letter, I instructed my officials accordingly.

Yours sincerely,
S. MacBride
Minister for External Affairs
