Minutes of a meeting of the Executive Committee of the Central Bank of Ireland
'Devaluation of Sterling'

Dublin, 20 September 1949

The Governor1 reported that a senior official of the Bank of England had delivered to him on Saturday morning, the 17th instant, a letter from the Governor of the Bank of England informing him of the terms of the devaluation of sterling which was to be announced the following evening. The Governor also reported a discussion he had shortly after the receipt of this communication with the Minister for Finance and also mentioned the terms of a reply which with the Minister's consent he had sent to the Governor of the Bank of England.
