Extract from a letter from Joseph P. Walshe to Archbishop John Charles McQuaid (Dublin)

Holy See, 4 June 1949

My dear Archbishop,
Many thanks for your kind letter. The few words at the end were most welcome. At times the feeling of isolation becomes oppressive, especially since the Depart.[ment] has become so overwhelmed with work that Fred has hardly even time to write. Indeed, you never know whether your work is approved or whether you are under some kind of censure. However, that is only letting off steam, and Your Grace wont mind the confidence. You can see, however, how timely your few words have been.
