Letter from Seán Nunan to Frederick H. Boland (Dublin)

Washington DC, 5 June 1949

I forward herewith copies of an Aide-Mémoire received yesterday afternoon from the State Department in reply to our Aide-Mémoire of May 25th which, in accordance with the instructions contained in your airmail minute of May 18th, set out the Government's views on the position created by the 'Ireland Bill'.1

The reply is, as I am sure you expected it to be, completely unsympathetic and indicates that so far as the State Department is concerned they are not the least bit interested in seeking or helping to arrive at, a solution of the problem of Partition.
