Letter from Seán MacBride to Seán Murphy (Paris)

Dublin, 1 November 1948

My dear Seán,
I enclose herewith a personal letter to Eric Louw,1 who is leading the South African delegation to UNO and who is staying at the Claridge. I have left the envelope open so that you may read the letter before delivering it and I am enclosing, for your information, a copy of Eric Louw's letter to me.2 You need not disclose to him that you have read his letter or my reply.

Please deliver my letter personally to Eric Louw and let me know anything that he may have to say bearing on the subject matter of the Commonwealth meeting. I would like you to keep in touch with Eric Louw while he is in Paris; perhaps you could invite him to dinner at the Legation some night. You could ask him to let you know, as soon as he can, when he will be able to come over to Ireland so that we will have as much time as possible to make the necessary arrangements.

[handwritten matter omitted]

With very best wishes to Mrs. Murphy and yourself,
Yours very sincerely,
Seán MacBride
