We have received no further information regarding our application for admission to UNO since the issue of our circular minute of the 4th February.¹ The Minister is very anxious to know how the matter is developing, and he would be glad if the Representatives at Washington, London, Paris, Ottawa and Canberra would make every effort to ascertain the present position and the prospects of our admission to the Organisation this year. Advantage should be taken of conversations with the Foreign Minister or with Foreign Office officials to sound them about the progress made on the two Assembly resolutions and about the intentions of their Government with regard to the admission of the five 'ex-enemy' States with which Peace Treaties have been concluded. Any scrap of information may be useful. Pieced together, the information gleaned at the five posts should give us a fairly reliable indication of our prospects.
