The feelings of consternation and the fears as to the future which were aroused throughout the United States by the death of President Roosevelt have been entirely allayed because of his successor 's masterly handling of the situation. President Truman has been extremely successful during his first week in office. His addresses to Congress and to the armed forces have been universally praised and approved. At his first press conference he created a splendid impression by unanimous consent of the newspaper people in attendance. There were 384 of them by far the largest attendance at a presidential press conference and one and all praised his straightforwardness, his candor and the ease with which he handled the rapid fire questioning of his audience.
