Cypher telegram from Joseph P. Walshe to Con Cremin (Berlin)

DUBLIN, 9 September 1944

Your despatch 21st June 48/13.1 Have been requested by Jewish Community to appeal to German Government on behalf of Hungarian Jews reported sent to ÖSMECUM.2 We learn that Swiss3 Swedish Ministers have (sic) made representations please enquire.4

3 Cremin called on Dr. Frölicher, the Swiss Minister on 18 September, inquiring whether a démarche had been made in connection with the Hungarian Jews. Frölicher replied that none had been made in Berlin, but thought that the Swiss Minister in Budapest had made a semi-official intervention with the Hungarian Government. Cremin noted that Frölicher did not think that any démarche to the German authorities would 'have the slightest prospect of success, if it would be entertained at all' (NAI DFA Berlin Embassy 48/12, note by Cremin, 19 Sept. 1944).
