Extract from a telegram from Con Cremin to Joseph P. Walshe (Dublin)
(No. 55)

BERLIN, 29 April 1944

Stuart your 87, 19431 enquires whether Irish passport may be renewed. He says that he ceased to broadcast end of February because of personal differences of opinion and also in view of situation in Ireland so as to avoid saying anything that might serve as argument against Ireland for U.S.A. and Britain; he does not at present propose to resume broadcasts but could not guarantee he might not do so at a later date. He says he was requested to hand to police end of March his foreigner passport issued by Germans 1942 following on our refusal to renew Irish passport; while this may be normal measure he thinks it may be connected with telephone message he says he subsequently received from radio to return there and threatening him if he refused with internment.
