BERLIN, 5 March 1943

Air Raid 1st March did widespread damage, particularly by fire, as there was a wind blowing which fanned incendiary bombs. Principal damage was in western and south-western parts of city.

Though some military objectives were hit such as railway installations, districts which suffered are mainly residential. Thousands of people have lost all or most of their possessions, and the population is anxious regarding the future.

Irish Colony all well.

Situation of Legation near the main line railways and important anti-aircraft batteries is very dangerous. I beg to enquire as to my position regarding compensation for loss or injury; this enquiry also concerns Miss Walsh.
