Situation here is still very uncertain.¹ Everything is quiet, but there is, of course, underneath the surface great sense of uneasiness. It appears certain Germans will require all diplomatic representatives of countries who are at war with, or who have broken diplomatic relations with, Germany and Italy to leave France. It appears there is considerable differences of opinion between Marshal and Laval on existing state of things here. At Foreign Office was unable to get anything definite. They hope situation will be clarified within the next few days, but they clearly do not know where they are.

The Brazilian Embassy and Mexican Legation were entered yesterday by German troops and French could only express regret for these incidents.
