Timothy A. Smiddy to Desmond FitzGerald (Dublin)
(MP/Sp.165/21/25)

WASHINGTON, 15 December 1925

Dear Mr. Minister:

Publicity

I enclose copy of the subjects covered in a series of pictures by the Fox Film Corporation which were recently taken in Ireland. At the invitation of the Fox Film Corporation I attended a private screening of these pictures and was very favourably impressed by their elevated character. At the request of the Company I chose those which in my opinion would be most suitable for publication. They will undoubtedly produce on American audiences an impression of Ireland quite different to that which many of them have. They give such an alluring character to Irish scenery and Irish life as to tempt many people who visit Europe to pass through Ireland either on their eastward or westward bound trip.

The Managing Director of this Company is Mr. Sheehan, a nephew of the late Bishop of Waterford.

Mr. Meighan's picture, 'Irish Luck' has met with an unusually good reception in New York and in Washington. Nothing is more calculated to advertise good features of Ireland than publicity of this character.

In addition you will be also glad to learn that some books have been recently published describing Irish scenery and presenting many interesting aspects of Irish life, the most recent of which is 'Ireland Beautiful', by Wallace Nuthing, Old America Company, Framingham, Massachusetts.

Yours sincerely,
[copy letter unsigned]
