Dublin, 25 August 1952

It is understood from newspaper reports, including the Washington ‘Evening Star’ of the 10th of July, 1952, ‘The San Francisco Chronicle’ of the 15th of July, 1952, and ‘The Nation’ of the 2nd of August, that a Los Angeles Immigration Bureau Hearing Official has recommended the deportation to Ireland of one Andrija Artukovic,1 otherwise known as Alois Anich who entered America from Ireland four years ago as a political refugee.

Under no circumstances should a Visa or a Travel Document be issued to this man or his family to enable them to re-enter Ireland. This instruction is being sent to all offices in the United States and the Embassy in Ottawa.

1 Andrija Artukovic (a.k.a. Alois Anich) (1899-1988), Minister of the Interior (1921-2, 1943), Minister of Justice (1943) and State Secretary (1943-5) of the Independent State of Croatia. See DIFP IX Nos. 486, 492, 571 and 573.
