Update on Foreign Office Memorandum No. 2 by George Gavan Duffy

(Copy)

Dublin, April 1922

Correspondence - All representatives are now numbering their correspondence and sending carbon copies with the exception of those in the Argentine and Chile. The latter, however, now numbers his letters.

All representatives are getting rather careless in the matter of giving separate sheets to: (1) office routine, (2) special important subjects. The tendency is to put all together. The representatives in England and Switzerland are, however, exceptions.

Specimen of Official Forms - these have not yet been received from the Diplomatic Representatives in France, Italy, Argentine, Chile, Spain and England.

Publications - The Bulletin has been sent, from all offices where issued. Other publications practically nil.

Cuttings - These have been sent regularly except from Spain (none since January) and Germany.

Political Position - The monthly survey has only been sent from Germany and Switzerland, (one), and the United States, (one).

Irish Literature Abroad - The bibliography, so far, is not very extensive. All representatives want to be reminded, except perhaps Art O'Brien and M[ichael] MacWhite. The latter says there are no Swiss books of Irish interest and Swiss publishing trade confines itself principally to matters of local importance, matters of wider interest been [being?] left to French, German or Italian publishers.

Newspapers - The representative in England is the only one who has carried out his instructions on this matter thoroughly.

Who's Who - So far no Who's Who has been received except from Mr MacWhite. The representative in the United States notified us in a letter dated March 27th that he was sending one but it has not yet reached us.
