Personal code telegram from William Warnock to Joseph P. Walshe (Dublin)
(No. 107)

BERLIN, 1 November 1941

Your telegram 207.1 Under Secretary of State W. informs me their enquiry regarding January incident completely negative they have made careful investigations but have ascertained nothing to suggest German aircraft responsible. As however there could be no wish to reject our protest they propose that further consideration of this matter be postponed until after war. They have explored all channels and feel they can do nothing more.

I took the opportunity to point out the bad effect of such incidents and asked him to remind Air Force that Irish territory should be respected. He assured me it is also in their interest to avoid friction.
