Following is confirmation of message conveyed by Walshe to Batterbee on telephone yesterday, 2nd December, from President to Prime Minister. Begins: 'I have no objection to your communicating through the channel indicated the personal view expressed during my conversation on the 29th November with Sir Harry Batterbee as summarised in your telegram. As I said to Sir Harry Batterbee our position in the whole matter is one of detachment. If we had the same interest that you have we should certainly consider that the person in that position should be above reproach. The opinion first expressed by me on Course 2 was on the assumption that divorce was a recognised institution in England.' Ends.
